Arts Education, Wellbeing and Leisure: Australian Primary Teacher Education Student Views

Abstract

Arts Education fosters personal development and cultivates opportunities for students to be creative and innovative. This research forms part of a wider study, Emerging issues and directions in Arts Education: Perceptions and capacities of Initial Teacher Education students. The authors draw on survey data (September–October 2024) (n = 60) in Australia to explore teacher education students’ perceptions of the ways in which Arts Education contributes to wellbeing. Data were coded using thematic analysis where two themes are discussed. The findings show a strong connection between on-campus study and online Arts learning.
